Terms and Conditions

  1. Information on how to enter and prize details form part of these conditions of entry. Entry into the Promotion is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. Entries not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions are deemed ineligible.
  2. Entry is open only to individuals who are Australian citizens or permanent residents and who at the time of entry are: 18 years of age or older and enrolled as an undergraduate student at an Australian university. Employees and Directors of the Sponsor (being The Smith Family), the Promoter or Walter Turnbull and their immediate families, are ineligible to enter.
  3. To enter the Promotion, entrants must:
    1. register by completing an online form accessible at studentchallenge.com.au;
    2. register their interest for the Student Challenge by completing an online form at studentchallenge.com.au;
    3. lodge a submission to one of the two Student Challenge case study questions;
  4. An entrant may only enter the Student Challenge once, either as an individual or as a member of a team. Teams are capped at a minimum of 1 person to a maximum of 2 persons. Entrants are individually and/or collectively (as the case may be) responsible for ensuring that their contact details submitted to the Promoter are correct. Entrants will forfeit their right to claim prizes in the event that their contact details are inaccurate or wrong. Please ensure you select the correct year when entering the competition as this will determine which Challenge you can enter. You are only eligible to enter the First Year Challenge if you are a first year undergraduate student. Please note if you are entering the competition with a partner, then you both need to be first year students to enter the First Year Challenge. The Student Challenge is for second, third or fourth year students.
  5. The Promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any entrant or the team of any entrant/s who tamper/s with the entry process or who submit/s an entry that is not in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Entry. No responsibility will be accepted for lost, late or misdirected entries.
  6. The Student Challenge will consist of 2 case study questions a "First Year" Student Challenge case study question and a "General" Student Challenge case study question. Only entrants enrolled in the first year of their undergraduate degree are eligible to make a submission to the "First Year" Student Challenge question.
  7. The Student Challenge will run for approximately 4 months. The "First Year" Student Challenge and "General" Student Challenge case study questions will be posted by the Promoter at the studentchallenge.com.au website from 9:00am (AEDST) on Saturday, 1 May, 2010. Entrants will have 4 months from 9:00am (AEDST) on Saturday, 1 May, 2010 to 11:59am (AEDST) on 31 August 2010 ("Promotional Period") to lodge their submission. Entry into the Student Challenge will be permitted at any time during the Promotional Period.
  8. Each entrant/team will be required to make one submission. A submission may be a combination of some or all of the following elements: a video (of up to but no more than 5 minutes in duration); an executive summary (up to but no more than 400 words); a picture; and/or supporting documentation (up to but no more than 3 documents) in Word (up to but no more than 5 pages), PowerPoint (up to but no more than 15 slides) or Excel format (No more than one worksheet). Only one of each document type may be submitted.
  9. A final judging panel of Chartered Accountants appointed by the Promoter, at the Promoter's discretion, will select the State Prize Winners and State Finalists from valid entries received during the Promotional Period at the Promoter's premises at 33 Erskine Street, Sydney, NSW, 2000. The State Prize Winners and State Finalists will be selected during the period from Wednesday, 1 September 2010 to Sunday, 12 September 2010. The State Prize Winners will be announced at 9am (AEST) on Monday, 13 September 2010.
  10. In the event that either of the Student Challenge case study questions does not elicit a minimum of at least 10 entries, the Promoter reserves the right (subject to the requirements of any applicable law) to terminate the Promotion.
  11. For each Student Challenge case study question there will be 6 "State Prize Winners". The State Prize Winners will be selected from the following geographic regions: 1 from New South Wales, 1 from Australian Capital Territory, 1 from Western Australia, 1 from South Australia & Northern Territory combined, 1 from Victoria & Tasmania combined and 1 from Queensland. From the pool of 6 State Prize Winners, the final judging panel will select a "National Winner" for the "First Year" Student Challenge and a "National Winner" for the "General" Student Challenge.
  12. Each submission will be individually judged based on literary and creative merit as well as technical knowledge, content, innovation and presentation.
  13. This is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the winners. The Winners will be notified by telephone, email or in writing within 3 days of being selected.
    1. The National Prize Winner for the "First Year" Student Challenge will receive a AU$2,000 STA Travel voucher (if the winner is a team, each team member will receive one voucher),
    2. The National Prize Winner for the "General" Student Challenge will receive an all expenses paid trip to London where the National Prize Winner/s will spend a week with expatriate Chartered Accountants from Australia and New Zealand selected by the Promoter (if the winner is a team, each team member will receive an all expenses paid trip to London). The all expenses paid trip to London includes economy flights from the National Prize Winner's capital city to London, accommodation and meals. The prize must be taken as offered and cannot be varied. The value of the prize is AU$10,000 inclusive of GST and is in Australian dollars and is the recommended retail value as provided by the supplier and is correct at time of printing.
    3. State Prize Winners will receive an invitation to attend a Power Lunch with a selection of employers in their capital city. State Winners will be responsible for the cost of their transportation to and from the Power Lunch, but the cost of the Power Lunch will be covered by the Promoter. The prize must be taken as offered and cannot be varied. The value of the prize is AU$2,000 inclusive of GST and is in Australian dollars and is the recommended retail value as provided by the supplier and is correct at time of printing.
    4. At the discretion of the Promoter, up to 3 State Finalists may receive an invitation to attend a Power Lunch with a selection of employers in their capital city. State Finalists will be responsible for the cost of their transportation to and from the Power Lunch, but the cost of the Power Lunch will be covered by the Promoter. The prize must be taken as offered and cannot be varied. The value of the prize is AU$2,000 inclusive of GST and is in Australian dollars and is the recommended retail value as provided by the supplier and is correct at time of printing.
  14. The total maximum prize pool for the Student Challenge is valued at approximately AU$50,000 (inclusive of GST).

General

  1. In the event that for whatever reason, any prize is unavailable, the Promoter reserves the right to substitute the unavailable prize for a prize of equal or greater value, subject to the relevant state regulation. Except with the written consent of the Promoter, the prize is not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash. The Promoter has absolute discretion as to whether it will provide such consent and need not provide any reasons to any person for providing or withholding consent.
  2. In the event that any prize is not claimed within three months of the winners being selected, the Promoter reserves the right to award the prize to the second best valid entry in the respective category. In such circumstances, the new Winner will be notified by telephone, by email or in writing within 3 days of being selected.
  3. The Promoter's decision in relation to any and all aspects of the Promotion is final and binding on every person who enters and no correspondence will be entered into.
  4. The Winner/s and Finalists agree to the use of their submissions, name/s, image/s and/or photograph/s for publicity, promotional purposes and for the Promoter's future promotions, without compensation, and agree/s that the Promoter will own copyright in any such images and photograph/s and in all material incorporating the photograph/s.
  5. Disqualification of any individual who the Promoter has reason to believe has breached any of the Terms and Conditions, or engaged in any unlawful or other improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise the fair and proper conduct of the Promotion is at the Promoter's discretion.
  6. The Promoter, each of its related bodies corporate, officers, employees and agents shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to direct, indirect or consequential loss) or for any personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with any prize/s except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
  7. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to prizes in transit. The Promoter makes no representations or warranties as to the quality/suitability of prizes. To the extent permitted by law, the Promoter is not liable for any loss suffered or sustained, to person or property and including, but not limited to, consequential (including economic) loss by reason of any act or omission, deliberate or negligent, by the Promoter, or its agents, in connection with the arrangement for supply, or the supply, of any goods or services by any person to the prize winners. This clause does not affect, and is not intended to affect, any rights a consumer might have, which are not able to be excluded under applicable Australian consumer protection laws.
  8. The Promoter is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer or online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site, delay or error in postal service or any combination thereof, including but not limited to any injury or damage to Eligible Entrants' or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation in or down-loading any materials in this Promotion. The Promoter is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, either caused by the phone user or for any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilised in this Promotion, or for any technical error, or any combination thereof that may occur in the course of the administration of this Promotion including any omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line or telephone, mobile or satellite network failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of entries.
  9. If for any reason this Promotion is not capable of running as planned, including but not limited to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the Promoter which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Promotion, the Promoter reserves the right, subject to any written directions given under applicable law, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Promotion. The Promoter reserves all rights to recover damages and/or other compensation as may be deemed appropriate from such an offender.
  10. In the event of war, terrorism, a state of emergency or a disaster, the Promoter reserves the right (subject to any written directions under applicable law) to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Promotion.
