1.    Information on how to enter and prize details form part of these conditions of entry. Entry into the Promotion is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. Entries not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions are deemed ineligible.


2.    The Promoter is the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ABN 50 084 642 571), 33 Erskine Street, Sydney NSW 2000.


3.    Entry is open only to individuals who at the time of entry are: 18 years of age or older and enrolled as an undergraduate student at an Australian university. Employees and Directors of the Sponsor (being the St. James Ethics Centre), the Promoter and their immediate families, are ineligible to enter, except that this does not in any way exclude undergraduate students who assist the Promoter as Student Brand Champs.


4.    To enter the Promotion, entrants must:


a.    register their details by completing an online form accessible at studentchallenge.com.au;
b.    register their interest in participating in the 2012 Student Challenge by completing an online form at studentchallenge.com.au;
c.    lodge submissions to the Part A and Part B General Student Challenge or the Part A and Part B 1st Year Student Challenge case study questions;


5.    An entrant may only enter the Promotion once, either as an individual or as a member of a team. Teams are capped at a maximum of 2 persons. Entrants are individually and/or collectively (as the case may be) responsible for ensuring that their contact details submitted to the Promoter are correct. Entrants will forfeit their right to claim prizes in the event that their contact details are inaccurate or wrong.


6.    The Promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any entrant or the team of any entrant/s who tamper/s with the entry process and/or who submit/s an entry that is not in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Entry. No responsibility will be accepted for lost, late or misdirected entries.


7.    The Promotion will consist of 2 separate challenges, a General Student Challenge and a 1st Year Student Challenge.  The General Student Challenge is open only to 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students, being students enrolled in the second, third or fourth year of their undergraduate degree.  The 1st Year Student Challenge is open only to 1st year students, being students enrolled in the first year of their undergraduate degree.  In each challenge, eligible entrants will be required to answer a Part A and Part B question from the same challenge.  A student cannot answer a Part A question from one challenge and a Part B question from the other challenge. A student cannot enter both the General Student Challenge and 1st Year Student Challenge.


8.    The Promotion will run for approximately 7 months from Thursday 1 March 2012 to Wednesday 31 August 2012 ("Promotional Period"). The Part A General Student Challenge and 1st Year Student Challenge case study questions will be posted by the Promoter at the website accessible at studentchallenge.com.au from about 9:00am (AEST) on Thursday, 1 March, 2012.  The Part B General Student Challenge and 1st Year Student Challenge case study questions will be posted by the Promoter at the website accessible at studentchallenge.com.au from about 9:00am (AEST) on Tuesday, 1 May, 2012.


9.    Entrants will have from about 9:00am (AEST) on Thursday, 1 March 2012 to 11:59am (AEST) on Wednesday 31 August 2012 to lodge their submissions.  Registration and entry into the Promotion will be permitted at any time during the Promotional Period.


10.    Each entrant/team will be required to make two (2) submissions.  That is, a Part A submission and a Part B submission. Each submission may be a combination of some or all of the following elements: a video (of up to but no more than 5 minutes in duration); an executive summary (up to but no more than 400 words); a picture; and/or supporting documentation (up to but no more than 3 documents) in Word (up to but no more than 5 pages), PowerPoint (up to but no more than 15 slides) or Excel format (No more than one worksheet). Only one of each document type may be submitted.


11.    A final judging panel of Chartered Accountants and Australian Accounting Industry figure-heads appointed by the Promoter, at the Promoter's discretion, will select the State Winners from valid entries received during the Promotional Period at the Promoter's premises at 33 Erskine Street, Sydney, NSW, 2000. The State Winners will be selected during the period from Thursday 1 September 2012 to Thursday 20 September 2012 ("Judging Period"). The State Winners will be announced at 9am (AEST) on Friday 5 October 2012.


12.    In the event that either the General Student Challenge or the 1st Year Student Challenge does not elicit a minimum of at least 10 entries, the Promoter reserves the right (subject to the requirements of any applicable law) to terminate the Promotion without awarding any prizes.


13.    For the General Student Challenge and the 1st Year Student Challenge there will be a "State Winner" for each of the following specified geographic regions. The State Winners will be selected from the following geographic regions: 1 from New South Wales, 1 from Australian Capital Territory, 1 from Western Australia, 1 from South Australia & Northern Territory combined, 1 from Victoria & Tasmania combined and 1 from Queensland.  From the pool of 6 State Winners for the General Student Challenge, and the pool of 6 State Winners for the 1st Year Student Challenge, the final judging panel will select an "Overall Winner" for the General Student Challenge and a "Overall Winner" for the 1st Year Student Challenge respectively.  The Overall Winners for the General Student Challenge and the 1st Year Student Challenge will be announced at the networking dinner to be held on [4 October 2012].


14.    Each submission will be individually judged based on literary and creative merit as well as technical knowledge, content, innovation and presentation.  Submissions exceeding the time and/or word and/or document limits set out above at clause 8 will not be disqualified from the Promotion but the final judging panel will only consider the submission up to the time and/or word and/or document limit specified, as the case may be.


15.    This is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the winners. Winners will be notified by telephone, email or in writing within 3 days of being selected.

  1. The State Winners of the 1st Year Student Challenge will receive an all expenses paid trip (maximum 2 night stay) from their State/Territory Capital to Sydney including flights, meals and accommodation. If the Sydney State Winner(s) resides within 50km of the Sydney General Post Office they will be responsible for the cost of their transportation to and from the presentation skills training and networking dinner. State Winners will be responsible for their transportation to and from their State/Territory Capital City airport. While in Sydney, State Winners of the 1st Year Student Challenge will attend presentation skills training, a networking dinner with members of the 2012 Student Challenge judging panel and members of the Australian Accounting industry, and will receive corporate attire vouchers sourced at the Promoter's discretion to the value of $500, a certificate of participation and an Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia Careers Information pack. If the winner is a team, each team member will receive the prize. The prize must be taken as offered and cannot be varied. The value of the total prizes for State Winners of the 1st Year Student Challenge is an estimated $30,000 inclusive of GST and is in Australian dollars and is the recommended retail value as provided by the supplier and is correct at time of printing.
  2. The State Winners of the General Student Challenge will receive an all expenses paid trip (maximum 2 night stay) from their State/Territory Capital to Sydney including flights, meals and accommodation. If the Sydney State Winner(s) resides within 50km of the Sydney General Post Office they will be responsible for the cost of their transportation to and from the presentation skills training and networking dinner. While in Sydney, State Winners of the General Student Challenge will attend presentation skills training, will have an opportunity to present their business solution at a networking dinner with members of the 2012 Student Challenge judging panel and members of the Australian Accounting industry, and will receive a personalised corporate attire fitting the location of which will be determined at the Promoter's discretion to the value of $1,500, a certificate of participation and an Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia Careers Information pack. If the winner is a team, each team member will receive the prize. The prize must be taken as offered and cannot be varied. The value of the total prizes for State Winners of the General Student Challenge is an estimated $40,000 inclusive of GST and is in Australian dollars and is the recommended retail value as provided by the supplier and is correct at time of printing.
  3. The Overall Winner(s) of the 1st Year Student Challenge will have an opportunity to speak about their winning business solution at the networking dinner with members of the 2012 Student Challenge judging panel and members of the Australian Accounting industry. The Promoter will use its reasonable endeavours to have the Overall Winner(s) of the 1st Year Student Challenge featured in an article posted on the on the websites of BRW.com & CFOWeb.com & AFR.com, receive a letter of recognition from the judging panel and an Apple® iPad® (32GB Wi-Fi + 3G) and accessories including an iPad® Smart Cover and Keyboard valued at $1,200. The prize must be taken as offered and cannot be varied. The value of the total prizes for the Overall Winner(s) of the 1st Year Student Challenge is an estimated $10,000 inclusive of GST and is in Australian dollars and is the recommended retail value as provided by the supplier and is correct at time of printing.
  4. The Overall Winner(s) of the General Student Challenge receive an opportunity to speak about their winning business solution at a networking dinner with members of the 2012 Student Challenge judging panel and members of the Australian Accounting industry. The Promoter will use its reasonable endeavours to have the Overall Winner(s) of the General Student Challenge featured in articles published in BRW and CFO, receive a letter of recognition from the judging panel and an Apple® iPad® (32GB Wi-Fi + 3G) and accessories including an iPad® Smart Cover and Keyboard and up to $10,000 to be used at the absolute discretion of the Promoter toward travel to an international financial capital and gain invaluable experience by job shadowing a qualified Chartered Accountant the location of which will be determined at the Promoter's discretion. The prize must be taken as offered and cannot be varied. The value of the total prizes for the Overall Winner(s) of the General Student Challenge is an estimated $30,000 inclusive of GST and is in Australian dollars and is the recommended retail value as provided by the supplier and is correct at time of printing.


16.    The total maximum prize pool for the Student Challenge is valued at approximately AU$110,000 (inclusive of GST).
