What is the Chartered Accountants Student Challenge?

The Chartered Accountants Student Challenge is an opportunity for you to put what you've learnt at university into practice to solve a real-world business challenge facing a not-for-profit organisation, St James Ethics Centre. The Student Challenge gives you the opportunity to stand out from the crowd, get noticed by prospective employers and to win your share of amazing prizes and a career opportunity second to none.

 

Can I pair up with someone from a different univeristy?

Yes, as long as your team member is in the same state as you and eligible to enter the same Student Challenge (1st year or overall) - you can pair up.

 

Can I pair up with someone from a different state?

No unfortunately not, as winners will be judged by state so we cannot have the winning people in each team live in dfferent states.

 

If I am not studying an accounting degree can I still enter?

Yes, the Student Challenge is open to all undergraduate students (including international students) studying at an Australian University are eligible for entry. The competition is directed at students studying a business, finance or accounting-related qualification, however there is no restraint in field of study.

 

Is the Chartered Accountants Student Challenge open to everyone?

No, it's only open to undergraduate students (including international students) who reside in Australia.

 

How do I submit my entry?

Each entrant (whether an individual or a team) will be required to make one submission only. A submission may be a combination of some or all of the following elements:

  • A video (up to but no more than five minutes in duration)
  • An executive summary (up to but no more than 400 words)
  • A picture; and/or supporting documentation (up to but no more than three documents) in Word (up to but no more than five pages)
  • PowerPoint (up to but no more than 15 slides) or
  • Excel format (no more than one worksheet).

Only one of each document type may be submitted by no later than 31 August at 11:59am AEST.

 

Is there a restriction on the length of the submission?

Yes, every element of a submission has criteria:

  • The video cannot be longer than five minutes in duration
  • The executive summary is a maximum of 400 words
  • The Word documents should not be more than five pages in length
  • The PowerPoint presentation a maximum of 15 slides or
  • Excel format - no more than one worksheet.

Only one of each document type may be submitted by no later than 31 August at 11:59am AEST.

 

When will I know if I am a state finalist?

The State Finalists will be notified before the last week of September (week commencing 24 September 2012).

How do I find out more about St James Ethics Centre and what they do?

What are the judges looking for?

Judges are looking for students who can apply their business acumen, creative thinking and analytical abilities to the real-life business challenge for St James Ethics Centre. Each submission will be judged on its literary and creative merit as well as the technical knowledge, content, innovation and overall presentation of the submission.

 

What is required of me during the competition?

You must be able to commit to the following in order to enter the competition:

  1. You must reside in Australia (you do not need to be Australian residents or citizens) for the duration of the competition (expected between 9am (AEST) on Thursday, 1 March 2012 and Friday, 31 August 2012).
  2. You must be an undergraduate university student at an Australian university.
  3. You must be available to travel to Sydney in October 2012 if you are selected as a state finalist to attend a networking function, presentation skills training and an awards ceremony.

What are the key dates for the competition?

  • 1 March 2012 Question part A launches and submissions begin
  • 1 May 2012 Question part B launches
  • 31 August 2012 Submissions close
  • September/October 2012 (date TBC) finalists trip to Sydney
  • 4 October 2012 Awards ceremony - winners are announced
